Common Cold

found this on a blog...via Pinterest

Using a large glass, I squeeze one inch of honey into the bottom. I then heat 1 lemon in the microwave for 30 seconds (it gets the juices flowing) and squeeze it into the glass over the honey. I then mix them with a spoon or stir stick, creating a thin syrup. Finally, I top it off with ice water (when I have a cold) or warm water (when I have a sore throat). I usually guzzle this down several times throughout my day, and it always does the trick!

Many of the women
 on Mom's wing are sick...
yesterday only 7 of the 18 ladies
made it out of their rooms for lunch

most have cough (sounds like bronchitis)
fever
weakness
some have pneumonia
a few have gone to the hospital

aides are not allowed to call off on holidays
so the one on Christmas Day
spread her germs far and wide...
no face mask
little evidence of hand washing
I did my best to do everything for Mom
and keep her away from others

at work last night the ER was full all day and night
overflow patients in the hallways
waiting for an ER room
22 or so patients in the waiting room for hours
(more came in as others were treated)
this is a small town
small hospital
we have 21 ER rooms

upper respiratory infections run wild
I have it too now
fortunately a face mask and gloves
help me work
while protecting the patients from my germs
me from theirs
no one covers their mouth it seems
or turns their head away from me when coughing

so I'm stopping at the store
to pick up a few things for a DIY remedy
just honey and lemons

Mom has it pretty bad
a very thick cough and weakness
trouble breathing
sure wish I didn't work today...

Sounds like what I had. I just took the honey straight from the spoon but I will copy these recipes for sure. Thanks. I sure hope mom gets over this quickly and you too. We have no local pharmacy that has Theraflu left and our hospital is this same.

I am sorry you got it too and your mom, this is not a fun one to have. I am still coughing from mine but at this point, I think it is more allergies from all the remedies I took. I do think lemon is good for this and i also took vitamin D3, that really seemed to knock it out the best. I sure hope you both fight it off and get over it quickly, prayers for you both.

It's sure going around. Our tiny hospital is full too and I spent lots of time waiting in the 10 room ER with my mom. My mom is one of those who doesn't cover her cough or sneeze--and passed it on to me. I missed Christmas and am still feeling pretty icky. Thanks for the remedies.

Hope you and your mom feel better soon.
