Keeping Track of Dye Recipe Success

A sunny window and me in the room makes it a perfect spot for Chester...
A well worn and much used book of dye record keeping... I have many of these books and just chose on off the shelf at random...

As you can tell by the dates I've been keeping track of my dye success and failures for a while now...each batch gives a better idea of how the next will turn out...

For the most part I do not know just how much wool I'm dyeing each time so it's always a bit of a surprise, I tend to put more wool in the pot than the recipe calls for...I like to dye over assortments of wool the best to get a big variety in my hooking... clothing from the thrift shop is a great way to get different textures to overdye... try to pick only the 100% wool skirts for this, they yield the most wool for your effort...jackets I will purchase to use as-is only if the wool is incredible...

Yum yum yum! What a delightful cupboard you have! And all your fabrics are so neatly folded and stacked - do they STAY that way? LOL Like the little red stool on top too.

OK - so I posted on the wrong page before - oops! I do the same thing as you for keeping a dye record, except I staple my swatches onto 5x7 cards. Your way seems a little bit better - you can probably use larger swatches in the book. Great idea!

gayle,

the cupboard will stay neat because I cut lots of patches from each piece before putting it in there...am I also have tons of fabric upstairs that is much of the same...

that little stool is one of my favorite pieces...my sisters bought it for me for my 40th b'day...from the Sundance catalogue...2000!

tried doing index cards but wasn't organized enough to keep them straight...the books are nearly foolish-girl proof...

Did you know we have a Sundance Outlet Store here in Utah? I always forget to go there - thanks for the reminder!

a Sundance outlet would be trouble for me...have purchased many treasures from them over the years...
