One of my coworkers is getting ready for chemo
again...
She's already lost both breasts to cancer
then recently had a second primary cancer
ovarian...
some girls have all the luck
Yesterday she was saying
it was harder to lose her hair
than her breasts...
no one can see what's going on
no one can see what's going on
under your shirt
but your head...no one can miss it...
The help I need is with bright fabrics
blues for work
any other colors/prints for home
or if you'd like to make a cap I'd love that too!
My budget isn't allowing for anything
extra right now but I'd dearly love to
make her six or more caps...
the pattern calls for 2/3 yard fabric...
Please email me for my address
if you have any bright fabric to share
or can make a cap...
I'll share any extra caps
with the Oncology Department at work
A little bit about my coworker...
once she had a patient with cancer and they were
talking about losing their hair
the patient said how tight money was
and that she was going to have
to keep wearing the same few caps
for months...
well
these are the same caps we wear to surgery
my coworker went to her mailbox
pulled out all her caps
then gave them to the patient
who left in tears with a big smile on her face...
my coworker looked at all of us
and said
"don't say a word or I'll cry too...I hate crying"

What a wonderful opportunity to do something for someone in need. I have copied the pattern and will try to make one.
Kelley.....I am going there now to get the pattern. I will be in touch with you soon. Thanks for posting this......I know we all have either known someone or been affected by this horrible disease.

I'm in...like flynn.
I can make a couple for sure! Bright colors are the preference? Let me know if she specially likes certain colors over any others!
xo
I have some bright fabrics :-) so I will either send you the fabric or try to make a couple of hats to send. Hugs to your co-worker.
Hey Kell, short or long ties??
##@%## I can't figure out the pattern. I've been messing with this for 2-1/2 hrs. Do those wavy lines mean darts? I just don't think I have the ties on right. I've read the directions sever times.
I figured it out with the help of Bren and Kelley. I have one finished and it was fun to make.
i'd love to send you some fabric don't have any brights myself but i'll get you some...
gone for a few days but i'll get you some next week...

Hi, I will make at least one hat tomorrow and zip it to you as soon as I have an address. email me ok, It is a great idea and you are a great friend. I had cancer of the vagina almost 10 years ago and chemo is just plain stinky. Deb
What a wonderful post Kelley. The caps are Great. Just wish I could sew them. Looks like you are getting lots of help on making them!
Already printed the pattern.
PLease email me your address and I will make at least two.
This is for my friend that went thru surgery and chemo and cried for loosing her hair.
Thank you....Karencg
What a wonderful thing you are doing. When my friend went through losing her hair I knit a few sleep caps with extra soft baby yarns and then bought a few hats. A wonderful straw hat with a big brim for blocking the sun and a couple soft casual cotton hats. Walmart was a treasure trove of affordable hats when I was shopping.
