Crows in Loops and Stitches
finally a rug off the frame
I started this one in late June I think
darn cross stitch got in the way
26 x 12
pattern available on Dorr linen
$50 shipped
a few mistakes
led to fudging and I love it!
I stitch 1 over 2 on 32 count
makes for an older look I think
design by Homespun Elegance
October Crow House
*****
Hope everyone is having a good week.
It went from hot
to unseasonably cool here. I'm fine with that.
This morning I picked up a carload of containers
from my friend Bea's house
it's almost empty
her son was there to pack the car
He's in his mid 70s
He'd rather be golfing
Bea's house is almost empty
soon to be for sale
Right now, she is in the hospital
went in yesterday with weakness and heart issues
she's 98
ready to join her husband
emptying her house of treasures
has really broken her heart
I'll pop in and see her tomorrow

Log Cabin #2
Log Cabin #2
Whenever I share a rug without a black cat I hear about it
This one is about the same as the first one
with the addition of 2 black cats
pattern on linen available
As for yesterday's comment about taking that huge rug apart
will not happen
my NC sister wants it
so I have a year to get it done
90* here today
I'm done being outside

A Fresh Start
Here's the story on this rug...
I hadn't felt like hooking in ages
oh, I could do one here or there for an animal shelter auction
then even that became too exhausting
yes, the depression had sunk into my bones
I went to work
came home and looked at the walls
repeat nearly endlessly
then my formerly hooker now quilter
friend Jacque offered up a rug/wool to me
for the price of shipping
she had started it
knew she didn't want to finish
don't even ask the size
but it's a large rug
it wasn't my style or colors
yet how could I resist
she basically had the center star and a small part
of the background completed
I went way off the rails
according to the drawn pattern
but boy did I have fun
I hooked and hooked
falling in love with hooking again
will I finish it or will I cannibalize the wool
and use the linen for a different rug
time will tell

Inspiration and Hooking
I haven't cross stitched in years
too many to count
I've tried but my eyes aren't up to it
then came floss tube on YouTube
because I've seen all crime and murder shows
twice
once I found Brenda and the Serial Starter
I knew I was in trouble
the stash above is 2 of my 4 orders
so...
my plan is to try stitching some smalls
and adapting some patterns to hooking
let me know if you have a favorite
floss tube channel
Started this one the other day
I'd drawn at least 4 other designs on this linen
the border was already hooked...
my family is visiting for a week
I needed to some hooking to keep me calm
I'm the youngest sister
62 to their 70 and 73
they still sort of boss me around
and question all my decisions...
This is the first log cabin I've hooked
if I remember correctly
19 x 12.5
pattern available on linen
The world has become such a heartbreaking place
I look for the little joys each day.
I count my friends first

Cats and Flag
March Hooking
Sometimes I get a little obsessed with
a certain piece of wool or design element
This year it's the blue wool in the flag
cats continue to be my favorite hooking motif
I have some log cabins in mind
more flags
more flowers
Today another crow is on the frame
I must quit to work in the yard...
sometime
Hope you're enjoying your day
Doing what you love!

Little Crow
Yesterday I pulled out a smallish piece of linen
stitched some cotton to the length and put it on the frame...
what to hook?
I cut for the background
everything else from the worm baskets
The previous rug did cut down the size of my worm stash
but in between I have hooked many rugs
adding plenty more strips
have also set aside some I think I'll never use
mostly purple
Today I started another similar to this on the same piece of linen
after that, there is a cat in the works
Thank you all for returning to my blog
after the long gap

Utility Rug
43 x 27
started this rug to use up strips from the worm baskets
colors I kept passing over
I did cut for the background
completed the hooking a few months ago
not sure when it will be finished
I don't particularly care for it
so if the cats damage it
my heart will not be breaking
and yes,
I know the x, y and z are missing
Have a wonderful day my wooly friends

My Twist on Things
I purchased this paper pattern
Feeding the Hens
from Winter Cottage Designs on etsy
intended to change the chickens to cats
When I decided to hook it
there was a larger backing piece ready for hooking
so I changed to fit
guess I got a bit carried away
Antique adaptation
another fun one to hook
Jack's Crow paper pattern from
Winter Cottage Designs on etsy
no real changes to design
my faceless pumpkin is on purpose
a story for another day
very washed out image
much better in person
Most of my Miller pencil hook collection
since the photo was taken I've found two others
around the house
there are likely more
I've been collecting these since my first one
not for sale
especially the two on the right
the other items in the drawer are random
A Long Story
there is a long story behind this rug
I'm not up to telling it today
but the most important thing is it got me hooking again!
Thank you Jacque

One of a Jan Patek Kind
Jan's Baskets
adapted from an older Jan Patek book
this basket rug is definitely one of a kind
I cannot offer the pattern
as it was hooked using her designs for inspiration
That being said
I have been studying some
antique quilts and samplers
something using those motifs is in the works
It's dark and dreary in my part of Ohio today
time to join the cats in a nap

Giant Pink Flowers
My latest design
I'm stuck in a loop of black cats
flags and lollipop flowers
19 x 11.5
available on linen or paper
These two were great fun to hook!
Another of my new designs
Cat in the Flowers
adapted from two antique rugs
With more free time
I see a lot of hooking in my future

Wool Dyeing
the oxygen tubing is long around here
so I can slowly dye wool
the colors are close to true
just a little darker in person
most recipes from
Beautiful Wool by Laurice Heath
turns out it's available at the
I Love Rug Hooking Website
some of these were overdyed again the next day
the top three are now a darker
primitive green
*****
I'll be off work until at least December 1st
my breathing has improved
still attached to the oxygen though
With my job
I am required to return with no limitations
I need to be mobile
to walk from one end of the hospital to the other at times
(it's not that big of a hospital but when you can't breathe
especially while wearing an N95 mask...)
I need to push heavy equipment, to move patients
and stand in surgery for hours
This is one of the reasons I push myself
a little
everyday
I feel much better than I did 2 weeks ago
if all goes well in 2 more weeks I can return
Thank goodness for curbside pick up at the grocery store
Wishing you a beautiful day!

Another One of a Kind
loved hooking this one
the colors speak to me!
I think the background color I dyed
is perfect for fall rugs
14 x 25 approx
SOLD
one of a kind design
next up will be donation rugs
smaller than usual so they will be more affordable
But First
cleaning up the disaster I made of my house
hooking and dyeing

Now What
pulled out some twill from ages ago
before long I'll be making curtains for the kitchen
more yardage of the piece with the red
so that's the curtains
maybe some pillow covers from the other...
I am still painting the kitchen
good thing I live alone and am not bothered by the mess
removed the scrappy hooking samples
starting my Out of Hand Rug Hookers freebie
(Facebook group)
mine will end up being an altered version
of the pattern given
just because my mind has moved on
*******
I have a couple of prayer request for strength and healing
my cousin Patty
and
a good friend of my NC sister, Betsy
thank you!

The Blue Basket
this blue basket
inspired the hooking for the Flag and Flowers rug
the colors in the rug here are true
two different filters
to try and get the colors right
real colors are somewhere in between
two wools made up the background
another rug to keep
this went on the frame just now
Hooking some smaller rugs
to try out colors for some larger ones in my stash...
No Spend on Supplies 2019
is going great
nearing the end of the 4th month
there are a few things I want
but nothing I need
Would love to hear about what you've purchased
vicarious thrills and all that
