true or imagined

growing up in a home where everyone loved to read

was a real blessing

 

Birds & Books

 

Books have always been

at the top of my favorites list

my reading list is

longer every day

 

For so long this

is year I found I couldn't read

fiction...only Alzheimer's care books

my mind wouldn't focus

I was always too restless

 

The only escape

I could find was listening to

audio books

when alone in the car

 

In the past week

I've been able to recover my joy of reading

the escape from this world

in to another...

finally I can relax

 

It's especially nice to sit in the living room

keeping Mom company while

she and Melrose watch the birds

Olivia beside me on the couch

 

 

 

Mom is stitching a little

in between bird and squirrel watching

 

I'm still loaded down with paperwork

so not much stitching

hooking will have to wait even longer

because I make such a mess

you have no idea

 

 

 

Just Breathing

I keep trying to amuse myself with

photos from Pinterest

I have enough neat old and repro 

cookie cutters to try this...

Lovely old small quilt to reproduce...

cat, book and birds...

always good for a smile

but the reality remains...

I figure a stroke from all this stress is due any minute...

Savoring

taking my time reading the final book

who passed away in 2012

she has long been one of my favorite authors

a departure from my normal 

gruesome reading...

using bits of free time to create the freezer paper templates

will be working with wool for my applique

long rather than square

not using the large snowmen in the border...

Also working on a green and red one patch

To Read or To Stitch

I had to lock this in the car

so I could get anything done today!

This is in my work tote bag

for times when we are slow...

Today is my day off

then I took an extra day tomorrow...

so I shouldn't be picking this book up

until late Friday afternoon

at the earliest...

arghhhh

This is an amazing book
for all introverts...
listened to it on CD
then had to purchase a copy


Wouldn't it be nice
to be able to say this out loud???

At work we readers
can tell by a look...
the non reader are oblivious
to our subtle and not so subtle hints...

With the book locked in the car
I've been stitching today...
binding a few small rugs
then sewing wool strips to the back
need to sign and date in stitches

The birthday quilt is back from the quilter
Mom is busy adding the binding...
making the label is my job
it's going to be a combination of
writing with an archival marker
applique and patchwork...

Tomorrow I need to buy
a new digital camera...
somehow between getting it wet
and dropping it my current camera went kaput...
hate that it would cost more to repair
than a new & better one...

Is anyone going to follow along
and hook the antique indpiration rug
with us?

Stashbusting

Remember that basket of scraps I posted a bit ago...here it is in the new form of assorted squares...might not impress you gals who love the rotary cutter but these were hand cut by tracing around plastic templates...one of the joys of making quilts is handling the fabric...this book arrived yesterday and the cover looks perfect for using up these squares

I'd had my eye on it for a while and never got around to buying it...couldn't pass up her great deals and bought 3 books...if you love prims she has one of my all time favorite books available, Snowbound by Red Wagon...there is a photo of the Snowbound quilt in one of my early posts on this blog...

Basket of Scraps

Went upstairs this morning to look for something and of course, forgot by the time I got up there...did find this scrap basket hiding under a stack of wool...so I brought it down to cut the pieces into stash busting sizes...am doing assorted size squares and rectangles and putting them in containers by size...they will be used for machine piecing one of these days...

Looked through my remaining quilt books upstairs too...brought these four down to enjoy all over again...each one is full of gorgeous inspirational photos of antique quilts (where I find ideas for hooked rugs too) and Pieces of the Past has some of the best patterns...
