Freebie Snowmen

this is the free version

looking through my old doodles the other day
for a rug swap design
I love to hook snowmen!
I just don't want to own anymore snowman things
or mostly anymore things at all
still on my long journey
to minimalism

this is the free version

these are very rough doodles
nothing like they will look when I hook them
I encourage you to use them and adapt them
please
as always
give credit to me for my designs

this is the free version

so this is the fellow I chose to hook
tomorrow I will share with you
the finished hooked rug

the "new improved" version
is available for $10
on red dot
14" x 14"
shipping included to USA

proceeds to my local
two and four legged charities

Happy Sunday!

Rugs, Mom and Follow by Email

if you need a quick gift
or new holiday decoration
check out
Maria has some excellent patterns!

I hooked this pattern a while ago
then set it aside to bind
as time passed
the cats decided it was perfect for napping on
just perfect

after cleaning the fur off I can bind it
but it's a lot of fur
it might take a while
with a lint brush and tweezers

oh the problems we procrastinators make for ourselves

*****

yesterday I took a FMLA day off work
Mom is not feeling well
breathing issues, weak,no appetite, barely drinking
her color is off
I sat with her for about 8 hours

she mostly slept
waking occasionally to hold my hand
talk about how much better she felt with me there
she would eat and drink a little for me

could be so many things

hoping we can at least get her in the wheelchair today
to make swallowing easier
I'll be going over early

with chicken broth
her favorite mug from home

sister from NC will be here Sunday for a few days
mom says she'll be better by then...

I added a Follow by Email gadget
right above my blog list
by request of a dear follower

A Merrie Wynter hooked design on eBay

If you like primitive you have to check out this listing by Wendy Miller (the red saltbox)...I love how she simplified this design even more...

I am just tickled seeing my design made up...and this one is too prim for words...

Meant to post a link to Betty's pn piece last week and forgot...she did the 1816 kitty with snowman head...it's drawn up on linen for hooking and now I'm itching to get to it...

Thanks to everyone who enjoys these designs...it warms my heart to see them being used by all...

I would love to get pics of other finished pieces...either to share here or just to see! In case you haven't a booklet, I have them back on eBay too...but it's Wendy's piece I'm ga-ga over...

The Last Hint....

Close up of Merrie Wynter rug...
colors aren't true...much more gold looking in real life
as you can see
there are at least four different colors
in the outer background and border...
the tree is also assorted wool
adds visual interest...
letters from a green, red, gold plaid

Colors more true in this photo...

trying to make this piece

look very old and antique looking...

snowman will look different when hooked

I can't even hook my own designs as-is!

This link was given by Tana over at Primitive and Rustic group and is a;ways good to have on hand...especially since I get so much inspiration from antique quilts and rugs...

More Snowmen

I can never see too many images of snowmen...they are so inspiring to me...
and speaking of snowmen...
I've been making some ornies for the Merrie Wynter listing on eBay
and have to decide which I can live without...

and hooking on one of the designs, the smaller piece with words
anxious to start on the second one...
it also has trees, sliver of the moon
some fella with a scarf and carrot nose...

What is it About Snowmen?

Snowmen just seem to make the world a better place...

because you can feel the joy that went into creating them...

Whether it's one or many snowmen...
Over the years I've made a lot of snowmen...
from fabric...
hooked them on rugs
stitched into quilts
and the dolls and ornies are uncountable...
This year it seems that drawing patterns is my pastime...
so if you'd like to have a
MERRIE WYNTER
think snowmen...

And know that I seem to like the number three a lot...
three snowmen look the best to me...
and three packages if you like second chance offers!

Snowmen

It's almost a tie between the number of cats and snowmen I have hooked...snowmen are such a happy subject for me to hook...this design is from The Woolen Willow...it was that tiny top hat that was so irresistible...

Since then I've drawn up many of my own smiling fellas and hooked away...one reason to always have a big stash of light wool...it's best if you overdye it in a mottled way using gray and drab browns for some muddy and dirty looks...will be posting recipes and suggestions in the future for dyeing snowman wool...

My First Hooked Rug

This is the first rug I actually finished...had started a different one and then was lucky enough to have a workshop with Emma Lou Lais...this is her design and hooked in a six cut...the border doesn't show up well in the photo but is a great plaid with lots of interest...

Snow People Quilt

This one is coming down from the living room wall today...another prized item hand appliqued and stitched by my mom...patterns by Curtis Boerhinger (sp??)...each block has so many little details...
Up close of the May block...grandma's name was Pansy and this is my favorite block...
