Use It Up Stitching

current work tote bag project
using cream homespun as the light
will only be as big as the homespun on hand

inspired by this top
found on Pinterest
love the cheerful look of these colors
my stash is sooo boring to me
#useitup

next up in the dye pots
the three pieces of wool across the top are small pieces
the windowpane gray is a yard
it's a Moda wool, I don't care for their wool at all
hoping the dyeing will help me use it
purchased a bundle so plenty more to dye

edited to add:
this batch turned out nice
recipe a bit of this and that
the Moda wool smells awful when dyeing

the sun is shining in Ohio...today
Olivia is baking between the glass and drapes

Dye Recipes ~ Making Do

my favorite outsider artist
image from Pinterest
Misty Lindsey

as you may know
I'm still living the
"buy no supplies 2019" life
it's been easy so far

today I pulled out some dye and recipes
that turned into a make-do session
as my dyes are plentiful...just not the colors I need

here are 3 make do recipes
don't try them yet!
I'll add photos when they are out of the dryer
probably tomorrow

all are over about 1/3 yard
oatmealish wool
for once I used less wool than called for
all dyes are Cushing

Blue Variation

1/2 tsp turquoise blue
1/4 royal blue
1/4 peacock
1/4 peach
1/8 medium brown

Woodrose

somehow I have many packages of this color
I think I bought a mixed lot off ebay years and years ago
this is probably the first time it's been used

1 tsp wood rose
1/4 American beauty

Orangish

1/4 tsp apricot
1/2 orange
1/4 peach
edited: 1/16 seal brown

accidentally deleted the orangish photo
woo...it was beyond day glo orange
it's back in the dye pot now
with the seal brown
will add photo tomorrow

my dyeing has been inspired by all the images
of Spring flowers
found online
I may never hook with these colors
but it'll be interesting trying new colors

*****

I'm not really all that enthused about cleaning the house
it's more to keep busy and not fall into a
puddle of blackness

working so far!

Old Glory

26.5 x 20

the hooking has been completed for a while
getting around to binding...
well, I'm more in the mood for hooking right how
it's hot
and even in AC a rug on your lap is extra hot

truer colors

washed out colors on a dreary day

finished this hooking last night
both of these rugs were hooked from the
worm baskets

looks to be a few more rugs in the baskets

you have my permission to copy
either or both of these rugs
one time
for personal use

please give me credit for design when sharing photos

measurements for Old Glory:

 30.25 x 23

borders are 3"
except top border which is three strips
(8 or 8.5 is what I used)

blue section - 11 x 8

stripes - 16.5 x 25.75

the flag is outline with one strip

I hope this makes sense...
my planning and measuring are very loose at best
mostly I eyeball

Making Do

on the frame
using up a pattern/backing from 2004
drawn on soft linen
I'm not at all fond of this sort of linen
so kept passing the pattern by

using it for a geometric worm busting rug is perfect!

yesterday I was dithering over dark or light background
I'd prefer light
the worm baskets said dark

this is one of the antique designs on the pattern
it might be tough hooking over them

*****

I'm being as frugal as can be this year
saving for when I'll need time off for mom

there is so much in my stash to "make do" with
next step will be to sell off a few things
that I haven't gotten around to

Mom has had some better days as her meds
are being decreased...
yesterday was awesome
hated going to work she was so much herself

Last Chance

I saw a rug on ebay a few years ago...
wanted to buy it but really had to hook it
do you know what I mean? for me it's the hooking

anyway...the artist kindly drew me a pattern on linen
(this was her first one to sell)

I've started hooking it many times
 nothing worked for me...
I was trying to reproduce her rug

I'm just determined to finish
or chuck the pattern in the trash
this time
will be the last time

the linen backing has taken a beating
from all the reverse hooking

it's coming along okay...
nowhere near the original
I'm using up some less than favorite wool
in the background
border will be from  leftover worms
so it's a true make do piece

original rug by Susan
puddleduck on ebay
(I think...my memory is a little fuzzy here)

a totally perfect rug in my eyes

Melrose
suggests I add more black
it makes everything look gorgeous!!!

Antique Applique

I found this antique quilt

at

Crazy Creek Quilts

circa 1845

wouldn't you love to know the history?

Making Do

in addition to using up my

craft supplies this year

I'm working on using up most
of my food before buying more...

packing my lunch for work everyday

it won't take long since in the past

I've mostly eaten in the cafeteria at work
plus way too much fast food-take out...

Yesterday I made a pot roast

in the crock pot that drove the cats mad

by the end of the day

Olivia had knocked the lid off
and was licking the inside of the pot
(the food was in the fridge by then)

this morning I had a hearty lunch
to take to the folks for
Mom's 88th birthday!

Christmas Swap Rug

Hooked for Lynn

my
Make-Do Christmas Swap
partner
from our
online
Primitive Folk Art Quilting Group

one of the many rugs
I've hooked in the past
few months...

forgot to take a photo of
the finished rug
but you get the idea...

this was so much fun
because
I challenged myself to only
use wool from the
already cut strips

it was only after hooking it
that the wool
was organized by color

More photos coming soon
of the wonderful items
that have shown up
on my doorstep
in the past few weeks~
