Log Cabin #2

 Log Cabin #2

Whenever I share a rug without a black cat I hear about it

This one is about the same as the first one
with the addition of 2 black cats
pattern on linen available

As for yesterday's comment about taking that huge rug apart
will not happen
my NC sister wants it
so I have a year to get it done

90* here today
I'm done being outside

A Fresh Start

Here's the story on this rug...

I hadn't felt like hooking in ages
oh, I could do one here or there for an animal shelter auction
then even that became too exhausting

yes, the depression had sunk into my bones
I went to work
came home and looked at the walls
repeat nearly endlessly

then my formerly hooker now quilter
friend Jacque offered up a rug/wool to me
for the price of shipping
she had started it
knew she didn't want to finish
don't even ask the size
but it's a large rug

it wasn't my style or colors
yet how could I resist

she basically had the center star and a small part
of the background completed
I went way off the rails
according to the drawn pattern
but boy did I have fun

I hooked and hooked
falling in love with hooking again
will I finish it or will I cannibalize the wool
and use the linen for a different rug
time will tell

Happy Happy Mail

A retirement gift from me to me

Lazy Cats
31 x 84

not any time soon though
will spend the time thinking about the colors

from blacksheepwooldesigns.com
not on her website yet
just ask about different sizes

Rhonda has a large selection
of antique reproduction style rugs I'd love to hook
her patterns are beautifully drawn

The roofers started here today
but with rain on the way
they will only get part of it done
when they come back Monday it will be cooler

Happy Weekend friends!

My Twist on Things

I purchased this paper pattern
Feeding the Hens
from Winter Cottage Designs on etsy
intended to change the chickens to cats

When I decided to hook it
there was a larger backing piece ready for hooking
so I changed to fit
guess I got a bit carried away

Antique adaptation
another fun one to hook

Jack's Crow paper pattern from
Winter Cottage Designs on etsy
no real changes to design

my faceless pumpkin is on purpose
a story for another day
very washed out image
much better in person

Most of my Miller pencil hook collection
since the photo was taken I've found two others
around the house
there are likely more

I've been collecting these since my first one
not for sale
especially the two on the right

the other items in the drawer are random

One of a Kind

I've been working on this runner

for a few weeks

finally got the finishing done this morning

53 x 13

                                       without a doubt

this one turned out exactly as imagined

there is another cat and pumpkin rug on the frame

using the same wools as this one

then on to other seasons

***

at this time I am not drawing up patterns

on linen or paper

the rugs I create now will are

one of a kind

this will probably change in the future

I'm thinking 2022

It's a beautiful fall day here in Ohio

wishing you

time to enjoy!

Finishing a Small Rug

after pressing the rug
I do a two rows of a zig zag stitch
around the outside of the hooking
1/2 to 1" away

I round the corners when stitching
then trim off linen close to the stitching

I fold the linen towards the back

whip the edges
about 1/2" before reaching a corner
pinch the linen together

then fold the next side towards the back

manipulate the linen so it's
as flat as possible
continue whipping the rug

after whipping I press rug again
cut or tear strips of wool to use for binding
I use wool that's a bit too heavy for hooking
because I have a stash of it
use any wool
any width you like
my width is usually 1 1/2-2"

pin the wool to the back of the rug

I round the corner of the wool strip
very slightly

continue pinning
around the entire back
whip with quilting thread

so
this is how I do it
others pin the wool
then whip the outer edge and wool strip
at the same time
I like hand work
so the extra step works for me

there are many ways to finish a rug
this is my favorite
if it was a floor rug
I would whip over according at the edge first

questions?
just ask

Beach Room Rug

for some reason
this simple little mat for Debbie's beach room
has been a real struggle
think I finally found the right idea

all done but the pressing
it will be auctioned off online instead of raffled
if anyone is interested please let me know
Mango on a Mission
will start it on Friday

I will be sharing the pattern on this blog
sooner or later
did not keep the paper in my recent destash
so need to redraw

Olivia rarely gets to sit in the front window
watching the birds and squirrels at the feeder

with Melrose sleeping in a different room
she took full advantage...

A visit to my family doctor yesterday
more good news...
down 32 pounds in 4 weeks...
decrease in my blood pressure medicine

Am going to switch to weighing much less often
concentrate on non scale victories
cleaning out clothes that are too big

Have a great Wednesday!
We have sun again in Ohio
until tomorrow...

Blue Bird Progress

plenty of hooking time today
as I wait for my furnace to be repaired
a couple hours in and we're waiting for a part
will finish it tomorrow
since I leave for work in an hour

the cats are not used to being in jail
Olivia is pitching a fit
and has been for 2 hours...

behind bars

She just got out and is happy as can be
who knows if I'll see Melrose before work
he is the big scaredy cat

Have a great day
feels good to be hooking again
anxious to move on to Debbie's beachy rug
