Blue Pumpkin

a very "kankerdoodle" rug

not sure of the background
or any details along the border

just a fun rug to hook!

*****
of course Saundra was first in my mind
when I posted the antique rug yesterday
I look forward to seeing
her hook it

Itty Bitty Kitty

Liberty Whale

hooked for my friend Debbie St Germain
the border was done last year
just waiting for the inspiration for the center

my sister thinks it look "very Nantuckety"

Melrose says it's very comfortable

now to press and remove cat fur
shipping tomorrow!

stitched this - by hand
got carried away and made it king size
I have no use for it this large

it's in the top/not quilted stage
so fairly easy to take apart to make two
smaller quilts

this way I can use and enjoy
maybe gift one to someone who likes blue

Happy Tuesday!
keeping my hands busy is easy this week
I am very thankful for that

Hooked Again

this little mat has been sitting on my frame for weeks
and maybe more weeks
border and "bumps" were done
nothing seemed to work in the center

until yesterday
when this little guy cried out to be hooked

another small mat on the frame
one started last year and set aside...

Back to work today
I'm ready

Happy Sweet Cooler Weather Day!

Progress and Wool Sale

this little cat is definitely a tortie
still mulling over the face

I've got a lot of wool
a lot of pre cut strip I'm tired of looking at
making up some boxes/bags to sell
I don't know how much will go in each package
by weight or yardage
I'm guessing over 3 yards in the box and 1 1/2 yards in bag
or more
I'm not going to skimp!!!

Option #1

medium flat rate box jammed full of wool
( I will use whichever shape box fits more wool)
$50 + $13.60 priority mail shipping

Option #2

Tyvek USPS priority mailing envelope
full of wool
$25 + $10 priority mail shipping

Shipping costs are outrageous!
I figure on Option #2
I will lose some on the shipping
since I don't have a scale
(overcharges will be refunded over $1)

This sale is ONLY for the lower 48 states
USA
 PayPal only
please pay promptly as I will be shipping Saturday morning
all orders not paid by 9 am 8/26 will be cancelled

each box/bags will be a mix of strips and lengths of wool
a nice way to add variety to your stash
wool will be as is and overdyed
I've been collecting wool for over 20 years

this is some of my stash
I'll be pulling wool from
I'm keeping the lightest colors for overdyeing

more and more wool
this is a small fraction of my stash

please email me with your choice
I will send you a PayPal invoice

Hooking and Stitching

this is as far as I got yesterday
using strips from the worm baskets
out of colors I want to use from here on in
 personal challenge to finish hooking
without cutting another strip

Inspiration:

from New England
1920-1930
love those faces

haven't stitched on naything in ages
maybe even since Mom passed in May

log cabins are a perennial favorite
cutting some strips this morning
to put in my work tote

*****

also in my work tote is some car wax
we wax the x ray tables and slide boards
making it easier to move patients on/off from carts

since I'm obviously not keeping up with car waxing...

Wishing you a beautiful Sunday!

More Oldies Plus

from 10 years ago
one of those amazing rugs that turned out perfect
it is, of course, living in NC with my sister

great inspiration for color

colors are horrid in the photo
another oldie

Vincent van Gogh
the mater of sunflowers...

combined a few of the designs in my new booklet
cat and pumpkins inside a huge sunflower...
I want to hook and not go to work today
maybe I can get a little done

Happy Thursday!

If you ever want a pattern of mine drawn up
Saundra of
 Woodland Junction
is the lady to contact
I asked her yesterday and was delighted
when she said yes

I don't care to draw up patterns for sale
lucky us, Saundra does
she uses Dorr primitive linen as the backing

In the Works

currently on the frame
still using up the strips from the
scrap baskets...

so
after dithering for ages
I've decide to do one final booklet
of my simple designs

I came across a stack of doodles
from at least 5-6 years ago
lots of little pieces of scrap paper

the above mat is from those designs
I call it new/old
because I've refined the old design
to be more hooker friendly

there will be about 20 designs included
lots of cats, pumpkins, some Christmas
all old designs being updated

if you're interested the "booklets"
(which are really just pages stapled together
nothing fancy at all
not professional
no color pictures, no shiny pages
just the designs)
they will be $20
including shipping to the lower 48 states

you can email me at

kankerdoodle @ aol dot com

I will send you a PayPal invoice
when booklets are ready to send

or email me for my address if you'd rather send a check

I appreciate all your support
and encouragement over the years
if I hadn't come across all these old doodles
this booklet would never happen

as time goes on I'll be hooking some of the designs
sharing them here and on FB
it's so much fun bringing simple designs to life
you know I love to see
what you've done with my doodles!

I've been going through my blog as time allows
making sure all the freebie patterns have labels
so you can search for them

Thanks my friends

Happy Saturday

it's a super happy Saturday here
yesterday the lawn guys came for the heavy duty work
major trimming
a few small trees down
weeding and so on

more to do...the easy stuff
stuff I can do in the mornings before work
or next week when I'm off
for 7 entire days starting Monday

on my list
of maybe to do or not:

mulch
dye wool
hook
dye wool
bundle up a bunch of my homespuns to sell
dye wool
scrape and paint a few outside areas
dye wool
rearrange sewing room
dye wool

you get the picture
if I get really ambitious I might
paint one wall in the sewing room
that's being realistic
there's no way I'm doing more than one wall

Hope you have a great weekend!

Cats and Other Cats

during my search for antique black cat sock doll images
I came across this rug...
 sort of a simple Magdalena

love and love

Mom does not share my love of sock dolls
 rolls her eyes at me

this brown one is quite the fella...

no plans to make any yet
especially if Julie
keeps making them to sell!
 * click on her name to see her picturetrail

Come back tomorrow for some free cat patterns
for hooking, punching and what have you
I went through all my doodles
from the past 10+ years
some are from past booklets
some never shared
I'll be adding these to the blog now and then

Crows

planning a new pumpkin rug
with crows...

right now I'm back to the geometric
lost interest in the little cat and pumpkin rug

plenty of pressing on my plate
the big stack of chair pads all have whipped edges
now to press and stitch on wool backing

Wishing you a beautiful Sunday!

Another 2 Cats Mat

another simple one
to empty out the worm baskets

can anyone recommend a simple
dog themed antique rug
to inspire my hooking?

I'm going to hook a little mat for a fund raiser
it's just that I can't draw a dog!

thanks in advance for your help...

Just the Eyes

after the eyes are added
I must
work on finishing the chair pads
at the very least get them ready to tote around with me
remind of that if I start another rug first, okay?

sorry about the blur

enjoying her perch on the ironing board
until Melrose spots her...

Next Please...

my other new cat chair pad design
is already waiting on the frame

this one was so fun it almost hooked itself
I did hook outside the lines
so now it's about 13"

I'm a happy hooking again hooker this week!
also decided to close my etsy store
so I won't be tempted to try and list things again
too stressful for me

Cat on the Frame

sorry about the blur

to put it mildly
I've been obsessed with this one
the border is WAY out of my comfort zone
and I love it!

started the background in green
fail
changed to black
just right

the stem is just there as a place holder
looking for a brownish-grey that will hold up
next to black

as you can see I've been derailed
from listing things for sale
story of my life
especially when the hooking is going smoothly

Two Little Cats

such a fun little rug
about 11 x 21
there might be a little tweaking before the binding
very little
I'm pretty happy with it

now to decide
do I keep or sell?

see those worms on the right...
that's all that is left of the background
yes, I do have more that I could have stripped
part of the fun is using up my worms

 *****

another chair pad is next on the frame
they are drawn up and ready to go...

Pumpkin and Cats

adapted from one of my older designs
still hooking from the worm baskets
I'm going to concentrate on backgrounds
once I started stripping for rugs again
it might be a while...
after this one I'm going back to the chair pads

 another oldie...
some freebie patterns for you
please give credit to me when creating
no selling of pattern in any form
no mass producing and so on

spoiled little monkey
