One of a Jan Patek Kind

 Jan's Baskets

adapted from an older Jan Patek book
this basket rug is definitely one of a kind

I cannot offer the pattern
as it was hooked using her designs for inspiration
That being said
I have been studying some
antique quilts and samplers
 something using those motifs is in the works

It's dark and dreary in my part of Ohio today

time to join the cats in a nap

More Happy Colors

a little washed out by the flash
love how this is hooking up
I NEED more of that old blue
used for the basket...

finishing up the beach room mat for Debbie

going to drag myself to work today
would rather be hooking
will be okay
when I get there...

Blue Bird

different rug on the frame today
I wanted to have something for a fund raising raffle for
Mango On a Mission
she raises money for the rolling wheels
used by dogs who have walking problems

using an old design of mine
a little difference along the top edge...

I'll have it ready for next Sunday

sent this photo to my sisters earlier
my delicious lunch
measuring out that salsa
not even heaping the tablespoons...
that's how serious I am

made the taco meat instead of cookies last night
I still have plenty of fat bombs for the week

do not try this at home like me...
I am off my insulin
have been carefully checking my blood sugar
multiple times a day
in the excellent range without it!!!

if I hadn't done all the research
ahead of time
I would sign up for the free trial month at
dietdoctor.com
I still might when I have time
their YouTube videos are informative

Lavender in the Dye Pots

pulled out my copy of Karen Kahle's
Little Book of Lavender...
rats, out of the dyes so made up my own recipes...

two dye pots going
one more blue, one more red
I hope

this is one of the Pinterest images
that inspired the dyeing
might do some of those chartreuse greens next

if you want to see how my dyeing has been going
check out the previous days for the "after photos"
yesterday's grays dyed green
are still waiting for a rinse and dry
will add them to the older
post tomorrow

hope that makes sense

I am bored silly with my fabric stash
between mom and I most of it has been around
20-30 years
am not interested in new fabric though
too much to use up

or dog!

Hope you're having a great weekend
I'm off and resting my achy legs and feet
my own fault
for gaining weight over the winter
depression contributes to my eating issues
but I just like food too much!
the struggle has begun to lose weight again

~~~~~
I  hope don't mind seeing Jensen's handsome face
for a few more days
first he makes me smiles as an actor and a person
second my electronics are giving me an issue
with changing the header photo
Picking a Background
this background
is the sort I'm going to aim for
with the My Garden rug...
colorwise
I'll post a photo of my progress tomorrow
with or without background
*****
today is my birthday
  as usual
time with Mom is good and bad
my heart is heavy knowing how unhappy she is
knowing I do all I can
minute by minute we go
*****
Charlotte, one of the other facility daughters
gifted me with a gorgeous vase of flowers
sweet pink roses
among other flowers and greens I cannot name
they made everyone smile
of course, the cats are flipping out
I let them have a sniff
then put the vase on a high cupboard...
not high enough
so now they are way up on a shelf
where I can see them from the bottom
my two beasties want to chew them up!
Melrose is on the floor under the shelf
keeping a close eye on the flowers for me...
Another Woolen Memories Rug
next up on the frame
a sweet one from Woolen Memories
just deciding on the truck color...
am going to start the binding on Debbie's beach rug today
once I find my big gold needles
or any needle the yarn can go through
honestly
organization seems to be far beyond me
Mom is feeling better
she is off oxygen except for bedtime!
scheduled for a follow up chest x ray tomorrow
I've been taking her vegetable soup
as often as possible
with a dinner roll or good bread
she prefers it over most everything
as long as there is dessert
Have a great Sunday!
missing my Dad today as always
feeling blessed
with so many wonderful memories
This Fun Stuff
when you are out of practice
having fun is harder than you think
especially when your idea of fun has changed
these rugs look like fun
if I still felt like hooking
I think I want to
but when I sit down to hook
it's just not there
so for now
fun will have to be breakfast
in the hospital cafeteria
after fasting bloodwork
don't be jealous
I'd buy you breakfast too if you were here!
Horse and Posies
original
the horses have it
for the third quarter pattern
faded version
can't wait to see what you do with this design
so much potential...
a true reproduction
or add your own spin
simple pattern to copy and enlarge
I've been thinking stars...
have had this photo saved for ages
it looks so old
date is more recent...
(apologies for not knowing the hooker)
love this one!
this one is super simple to draw up
no need to copy and enlarge
just fold paper for your star shape
(use freezer paper for bigger stars)
in the size you want
and your template is ready...
Random Inpsirations
all the photos where found in Pinterest...
for one reason or another they inspire me
if I had a red barn
this would definitely be on the side
love this
for all my floss and pearl cotton
the colors....
perfect
simple cat...perfect
I've been busy helping the folks...
Mom's been feeling sick for about a month
long trip to ER yesterday
specialist appointment next week
Blood work and imaging tests show all is well...
but she sure doesn't feel that way
Primitive Punching
have been doing
a lot of punching lately...
mostly variations
of
Maggie Bonanomi designs
they are a joy to punch
but a pain to photograph
in a state with little
sunshine
this time of year
they turn out too
bright
with the flash
have listed both of these
on eBay
The QUILT
What can I say that the photos don't?
I especially love the two light flowers...
My mom is an amazing quilter...at 83 she can out stitch me!
all hand pieced and hand appliqued
using lots' of fabrics from our stash
and some new Moda Chocolat...
pattern is from
Primitive Pieces by Linda
a minor change here and there
I'll be hand quilting this top after the holidays...
Oh Lucky Me
I fell in love with this pattern at first sight...something about those prim flowers..so I bought the pattern and knew someday...well, once I showed it to Mom she was hooked too...so guess who is making me this beauty???
We're picking out the fabric now...she recently bought the tin full of Chocolat fabric and one of the browns will figure prominently quilt...as well as blues and olives...going through my stash for oranges and golds...
Liberty
Love this rug...my own simple design...I did happen to hook two of these rugs...one I sold and one went to Mom...it was supposed to be for me!
Millenium Garden Block hooked rug
Hooked this in 2003 for Mom after she made me the Millennium Garden quilt by Jan Patek a few years before...it didn't photograph well...the background is assorted creams from as-is recycled skirts...
It hangs over Mom's sewing room worktable...
