Early Work

Crazy Evening Star wallhanging made after Roberta Horton workshop...in the early 80's there were few fabric choices...especially the plaids and stripes...hand pieced and hand quilted...
Used to do some fancy labels...

Was going to crop this photo...what a mess...

The stockings were made by my sister, hand pieced and hand quilted...

I Was Going to Organize

I have this great closet upstairs... about 5 x 5 with all these shelves...perfect for organizing the Best of my stash...used to use it for keeping my prim treasures organized between holidays...
Put some of my rug patterns over hangers so they'd be easy to store...

Ta Da...one shelf looked good...but then I started pulling fabrics to take downstairs and use...just gave up...this is a small portion of the stash and am overwhelmed by organizing...

This is my favorite red cupboard...where I store some of the fabrics in current use...cotton and wool...

Nine Patch Scrappy Quilt

One block in progress with some pieces of fabric and plastic template...hand cut and hand piece my blocks...it's the process of stitching rather than the completed project I prefer...
After I cut out a bunch of squares I pin them to pieces of freezer paper in blocks to stitch...All the fabrics were carefully chosen from my stash...this is not a scrap basket quilt...just used a few rules when picking colors...

A bunch of finished blocks...over thirty right now...these will probably end up making two quilts by the time I'm done with the blocks...keeping them stored in a pizza box for now...just took the design wall down in the old sewing room today and am not putting one up in the studio so it will be interesting deciding which block goes where...

Three More Quilts

Georgetown circle...Mom made this in 1983...isn't it spectacular! Hand pieced and hand quilted...the perfect Christmas quilt...she later made a second one for my sister with more primitive fabrics...have also seen this design done up in a scrappy style and would someday like to make one of those too...
Amish Square in a Square...we saw a quilt in country Living and fell in love with it...Mom made this one in 1984...hand pieced and hand quilted...an absolute beauty in person with all the fancy quilting...and the binding is that "baby poop" bronze...

Mom is currently working on another Amish quilt for sister Judy...another quilt from a long ago Country Living page I'd saved...

Okay, I was 19 when I picked out the fabrics for this quilt and there we had to send away for them...there weren't quilt shops and cotton fabric like we can find today...

Seems my color choices have changed a bit since then...but I love this hand pieced , appliqued and quilted quilt... Ninepatch Nosegay from 1979...

Growing up with had a treasured applique iris quilt form grandma and we called it The Sick Quilt...only got it out to cover someone if they were sick and needed the extra comfort of a lovingly made quilt...this has since become my own sick quilt...rarely sees the light of day...

Found in the Sewing Room

A few years ago when I was setting up the shelves full of wool in the sewing room I would take lengths of fabric I no longer cared for to line the shelves and protect the wool...yesterday I came across this piece (4 yards) and now think it will be good for something...especially after staining...maybe I can line paper mache boxes with it...any other ideas??

Scrappy Lap Quilt

Going through some baskets and this was folded up in the bottom...a hand pieced lap quilt size unfinished top...about 33 x 58...

Been so long can't even remember when I did this...will be taking off the dark green border and adding a few dozen blocks that I found elsewhere in the house...somehow they got separated...this time it'll be a wider red border I'll stitch on, then have it machine quilted...
