Cotton Closet

yesterday this closet was overflowing with wool
that has been moved to a different room

this closet now contains about 80% of my quilt fabric
might not be amazing to you
but to me it is unbelievable

when this was Mom's house the closet was overflowing
there were baskets and bags full of cotton
around the room
my house had four floor to ceiling metal shelving units
stuffed with cotton
plus more baskets and bags

over the years I downsized
she downsized
we mostly donated to our church and other charities

our joy in collecting got the best of us
I took years off from stitching to hook
she slowed down in her stitching...

it pleased us both to donate
to share our "wealth"

now my stash of cotton is not overwhelming
if only I could say that about the wool

Happy Saturday!

the antibiotics have taken hold so the pain is gone

Sewing Room

one corner started...
I gave up on the painting before rearranging
otherwise it would never get done

this is more of a storage corner
the real work gets done diagonally across the room
where most of my tools and the best lights are

next I'll tackle the closet
currently full of wool
going to change it back to quilt fabric
now that I have so much less fabric
it should all fit in the closet

I am taking plenty of stitching breaks...

Happy Friday!
I'm home from work with a tooth abcess
waiting for the antibiotics to work
so I can have something done Monday

Decisions in the Sewing Room

saw this image on Pinterest
I have the pattern
have had the pattern for ever it seems
will I ever use the pattern
probably not

it's going into the "maybe sell" pile

for now I've been finishing hooked rugs
all those mats hooked
over the past few months
I like the finishing work
except signing them
I do it in stitches with pearle cotton

Happy Friday!

Combined Sewing Room

as I take more and more
of my belongings to Mom's house
she may be seeing an
upside to our sharing
a sewing room
(used to be her bedroom/sewing room)

I was in the back room
when she noticed a tiny small portion
(20-30 balls)
of my Valdani pearl cotton collection
immediately she picked it up
and said
"I'll just take this to my sewing room"

the look on her face
tone of her voice
will be with me always
she is beyond delighted
to have such access to wool and thread

I've found giving her tasks
help her find a purpose
today she made baked beans
and deviled eggs
to share with Dad tomorrow
otherwise known as
"now who is that man we go visit"

Dad is much happier in his new room
his other rooms
were at the end of a hall
this one is in a busy area
no more feeling lonesome

all the little things
have made this a wonderful day

I Was Going to Organize

I have this great closet upstairs... about 5 x 5 with all these shelves...perfect for organizing the Best of my stash...used to use it for keeping my prim treasures organized between holidays...
Put some of my rug patterns over hangers so they'd be easy to store...

Ta Da...one shelf looked good...but then I started pulling fabrics to take downstairs and use...just gave up...this is a small portion of the stash and am overwhelmed by organizing...

This is my favorite red cupboard...where I store some of the fabrics in current use...cotton and wool...

Work in Progress: Studio

Yes, the couch is still in the living room...keep moving it around to get the walls painted, shelves moved in and loaded with wool...still have to paint the other side of the room and hang new drapery rods...
This is the sad old sewing room as stuff gets moved out...will be painting the wooden shelves that hold my books and magazines and put it under window in Studio (still 1/2 living room for now)...this will be the junk room until other rooms are done then this one can be scrubbed, painted and new carpet or flooring...
