Why is my pattern on Freezer Paper?

in an effort to use what was on hand

I started using freezer paper for my paper patterns

it was the right size and easy to use

The other day something clicked

I use freezer paper for wool applique

Why not use it for rug hooking?

I drew the pattern on the shiny side

then pressed it to the backing

Now it was easy to place on my light box

(or would have been if I knew where it was)

or tape to a window

Turn so the backing faces you and trace

Super simple!

So get your backing ready

draw up your border lines...

I drew my design on the shiny side of freezer paper

a scant 1/4" smaller than the design

Place shiny side down on backing
press with dry iron

Ta Da!
you are now ready to draw your pattern on the backing

just flip it over onto your light source
the paper lifts off easy when you're done...

I hope this makes sense
I mostly draw my designs directly on the linen
because I design as I go

When purchasing paper patterns from others this
is my go to now

One of a Kind

I've been working on this runner

for a few weeks

finally got the finishing done this morning

53 x 13

                                       without a doubt

this one turned out exactly as imagined

there is another cat and pumpkin rug on the frame

using the same wools as this one

then on to other seasons

***

at this time I am not drawing up patterns

on linen or paper

the rugs I create now will are

one of a kind

this will probably change in the future

I'm thinking 2022

It's a beautiful fall day here in Ohio

wishing you

time to enjoy!

Blue Bird Progress

a little progress this morning
it's about 15.5" across

off tomorrow so maybe a lot of hooking time!

*****
Couldn't resist yesterday
weighed myself at work
3 weeks down 26 pounds

it's a good start
a long way to go
for the first time in my life I have no doubts
concerning success at weight loss

I feel so much better already!

This Blue

more than a few years ago
my NC sister and I were at a prim shop
where we found two most wonderful cupboards

about the same size
one dark green
one an early blue

I choose the dark green one
it has a little shelf at the top
then doors fitted with screening
to showcase the shelves contents inisde

ever since it arrived at my house
I've wanted the blue one
yesterday she offered to paint the green one
on her next visit
in the spring

!!!

now to choose the right blue...

it's my job to find the right paint
any suggestions?

Never Give Up

my house is getting very tidy this weekend
I have been searching for a pattern
for 2 days...
because it's the only thing I want to hook

a Lori Brechlin/ Not Forgotten Farm design

this was Sherry's version
isn't it absolute prim perfection

I know I could draw it up on my own
but I must find the pattern...
I'm not normally very OCD
but I know it's here somewhere

in the mean time
I've gotten most of my patterns organized
by type or designer
I've labelled the folders, baskets and containers
made a list of what and where
that's hanging in my sewing room

but still the pattern eludes me...

wish me luck
I'm going back in

Sew Primitive

I decided Old Glory needed a companion rug...
design elements are from a Cheri Payne pattern in my collection

still using up the already cut strips

in case you want one
move fast...
she's retiring her pattern business at the end of this month

Cats Again

you've seen these before
the most wonderful birthday rug
from my AAPG friends in 2010
and
Lonely Girl
hooked just a little later that year

right now they are hanging in Mom's living room
taking the space designated for the new church rug...

I'm afraid these will get mighty dusty
waiting to replaced by a new rug
life intervenes

I think these two make a good pair

on eBay this week

The Boys of Autumn
OOAK
hand hooked rug
one of my favorite new designs...
can't get enough of these bouncy cats

Harvest Moon pinkeep

...another of my designs

prim stitched on prairie cloth

walnut stained

rusty pins and bells

backed with wool

not a good picture

much more prim in person...

the pumpkins are such fun to stitch

think this would be a good name for a shop

1784 Harvest Woolens

published in 1996
hard to find
great for machine piecers...
only looked through this a few times...
I hand piece and sometimes think about using the machine more
nah, it's not going to happen....
getting the finishing touches on my upcoming
*Merrie Wynter*
booklet
then I'm done with booklets until later next year...

BLESTB Launch

11 3/4" x 10 1/4" approx
A wonderful and favorite design by Lori Brechlin...
just a few little variations because I stitched this on prarie cloth
not even weave and sort of paid 0nly 95% attention to the chart...

It looks much more grubby in person...
the edges are folded back and stitched with two rows of thread pulled from the praire cloth...very thifty and looks great...
I was going to use linen thread but this was even better...

will be listed on ebay later today...

28 1/2" x 23" approx
Here it is...my own design that hooked up exactly as I pictured it in my mind...maybe even a little better! Livvie is checking this one out...
Chester was busy sitting on the counter top crying for some chow...LOL...he's sort of gotten his way the last week or so since he's been so stressed by his new pal...
today it's back to normal since he's been spotted grooming her and they both slept with me last night...
50* and open windows did the trick...

Hand drawn on Wendy's premium linen,
this rug is available as a pattern for $75 plus shipping...
I'll be listing it later today for the BLESTB Launch...

now, if you're interested in purchasing the finished rug

(it's not bound yet but will be over the next few days...just got finished hooking it this morning...)
give me an email...
I must warn you ahead of time this rug will come at a very dear price as I love it!
I consider my work pieces of art and price accordingly...

In the past I have sold my rugs based on their size but have stopped doing that and now base it on their worthiness as a piece of art...

Well, unless you're one of my sisters...

then you get the big discount...

or Mom, who just has to ask and it's free!

Close up of the upper right corner...the background was hooked with one as-is piece and a few overdyed mottles...of course the alphabet is all wonky...left out a few letters too and used a symbol instead...Cat...Flower...

Lower right corner...these pumpkins crack me up...little bitty...the date, 1884 was the year my Grandmother Pansy was born...and it is from her I inherited the best gift of all...the love of doing handwork...

Thanks again for all the comments...

I'm glad Chester and Olivia have adoring such fans...
if you knew them in person you'd love them too...

Stitches and Punches

Forgot all about this one and unearthed it while moving fabric...a Lori Brechlin counted thread design..changed it a bit as I am known to do...still needs to be walnut stained and finished as a pinkeep...
Never ending May Day launch project...just cannot get a background I like so missed the deadline...using previously cut pieces of red from my scrappy thread basket...yes, I know floss is only 24c a skein at wally world but I am being "make-do" and love using bit and pieces...

Another one that needs finishing...based on an antique hooked rug...

This one cracks me up...based on both a Madhen and Veena's Merchantile snowman...I need a magic wand to start finishing all my pinkeeps for me...
